Lynx brings LYNX MOSA.ic™ to Hannover Messe

Demonstrates path to Digital Transformation by taking a holistic view of assurance in large-scale cyber-physical systems that constitute the Industrial IoT (IIoT)

Reading, April 1, 2019 – Lynx Software Technologies today announced that it is supporting the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) Member Pavilion at Hannover Messe (8-D23), presenting Lynx MOSA.ic™, a software development framework for building modular, comprehensible software systems.  Lynx is a member of the IIC and its Security Working Group, and was a significant contributor in the development of the Industrial Internet Security Framework (IISF).

Lee Cresswell, Vice President of Sales, Lynx Software Technologies, said, “The full potential of the IIoT to deliver digital transformation – making the leap from the automation of manufacturing to the automation of running a business – can only be realized if the cyber-physical systems that constitute the IIoT are founded on the necessary assurance and resilience to cyber-attack.  Point cyber security solutions are easily subverted, and ultimately risk degrading security by expanding attack surfaces.  Lynx MOSA.ic, a software development framework inspired from holistic composable security research, is designed to address the challenges in architecting large-scale cyber-physical systems, and build the network of trust required to realize the vision of the IIoT."

In Hannover, Lynx will be demonstrating Lynx MOSA.ic using an industrial robot application consisting of three elements: An Operator Workstation, a Robotic Controller, and a “Prove-It" Workstation.  The Operator Workstation is a securely partitioned laptop, isolating trusted design tools from internal and external threats.  The Robotic Controller runs on a Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC and features a robust partitioned real-time system that actuates a robotic arm, conveyor belt, and image recognition system.  All robotic controls are implemented in independent bare-metal applications in order to minimize attack vectors and reduce non-deterministic behavior.  The “Prove-it” Workstation inspects real-time behavior of the robotic control system and serves as a malicious endpoint on the network to simulate attacks, demonstrating the resiliency of the robotic controller design.

About Lynx Software Technologies
Every day, millions of people worldwide benefit from products that rely on Lynx Software Technologies—from Internet and phone communications, to airline flight-control systems, office automation, and medical devices.

An innovator in modern platform software technologies, Lynx provides the richest set of options for efficiently realizing robust, comprehensible software systems onto modern CPUs.

Lynx has crafted and adapted platform architectures over thirty years of processor evolution, beginning with the LynxOS® real-time operating system (RTOS), which offered a UNIX®-like user model and standard POSIX interfaces to developers of embedded systems.  LynxOS® was one of the first operating systems to leverage hardware memory protection capabilities and featured a state-of-the-art scalable real-time thread execution model.  LynxOS-178—a 2nd Generation refinement of the LynxOS RTOS—introduced kernel partitioning and ARINC API standards to the avionic development community.  LynxOS-178 is developed and certified to the distinguished FAA DO-178C DAL A safety standard and received the first and only FAA Reusable Software Component certificate. Lynx MOSA.ic™ extends this proud history of innovation by leveraging CPU virtualization to further simplify and decentralize platform abstraction layers, providing a modular development and integration framework for rapidly building software systems out of independent application modules.
